Some Secrets Haunt You
Forever....
Every night
Genny Austin is tormented by nightmares of a past she can't recall.
Crazy as it sounds, Genny is convinced her harrowing dreams are
memories of another life she lived long ago.
Jack Brennan
is having nightmares too, but his are real. His business is under
siege and his life is being threatened. When Genny and Jack meet one
night on a Santa Barbara beach, all Jack wants from Genny is a wild
night and quick good-bye, but Genny isn't the sort for a one night
stand.
Drawn to each
other by feelings neither she nor Jack understand, Genny finds herself
inexorably lured into a world of passion and deadly riddles. In the
shadows of her dreams lurks a terrible truth, and only by unlocking
the secrets of the past will she be free to find love at last.
Excerpt:
"Pretty rough
week?" Jack asked as they walked along the sand at the edge of the
beach.
Genny sighed
into the darkness. "Not one of my best. I've been napping a little,
which the doctor says I shouldn't do, since it disturbs my normal
sleeping patterns, but I haven't really gotten much rest."
"And the
dreams?"
She glanced
away, her expression suddenly bleak. "Really bad, Jack. I don't know
what I'm going to do."
"I'm sorry,
baby. I wish I knew what to tell you."
He was
certain he knew how to help her, if only she would let him. He eyed
her high soft breasts, remembering the way they'd felt in his hands.
He wanted her. He had since the moment he had met her. Then he thought
of the promise he had made and forced his eyes back to her face. "It's
getting kind of late. Maybe we ought to be going back."
She simply
nodded. They made their way back along the beach,
but when they
finally reached the house, Genny made no effort to go in.
"Genny...baby,
are you all right?"
She only
shook her head. "I can't do it, Jack. I can't face it again tonight."
She looked up at him and tears glistened in her soft brown eyes. "I
keep thinking about my nightmares, the terrible things I'll see. Come
inside with me, Jack. Make love to me."
Jack took a
long slow breath of air. Taking Genny to bed was what he'd been after
from the start. Still, he knew the kind of man he was, not the sort
for a girl like Genny. "You know he way I am...the way I'll always be.
Are you sure that's what
you want?"
Her lashes
swept down but they couldn't hide the tear that trickled down her
cheek. "I need you, Jack. I want you to stay with me, make love to me.
I want you to help me forget my dreams. I want you to make me think
only of you and the things you do to me. Make me forget, Jack--if only
for tonight."
